Make your Bucket List a one-year plan
If 30 is the new 20 and creating daily intentions is the new way of making New Year's resolutions, then our bucket list should be time adjusted as well. If you don't know already, a bucket list is a checklist of everything you have always wanted to do before your time is up, inspired by the 2007 comedy The Bucket List, starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.
By limiting your bucket list to an annual plan, it's a fantastic way to bring exciting change to your life that won't get delayed for twenty years from now. We constantly put off fixing this or that because we are so busy, so how exactly do we ensure that travel gets put on the top of the list? Cease the day!
Need some inspiration? Allow these tips to help get you started.
Travel more
There is something for all budgets, from a simple hiking retreat outside the city to a trip to some exotic location around the globe. Remember it's a one year plan so saving regularly can help make the bigger trips a reality down the road or for next year's list.
Try a new activity that makes you sweat
You've always wanted to try it, but never bothered. Why not? Whether it's rock climbing, yoga or salsa lessons. Seriously, what have you got to lose? Make a plan to try a class this week! Most places have great introductory rates and sometimes free...
If you prefer to sweat more independently it's time to get that bike, pair of rollerblades or skates you've had your eye on.
Find a hobby
It's life's little joys that make all the difference. Sometimes they just happen and sometimes we have to go out and find it. If you don't have one already, make a plan to try something new per month. It could be absolutely anything like cooking lessons, reading, volunteering at a local animal shelter or another organization that combines something you love and a way to actively participate.
Do something that scares you every month
If rock climbing or yoga already scare you, then you can check that off your list. But why stop here? Continuously raise the bar. Hey, if skydiving is what it will take, then go for it. If it's asking for that raise you've always wanted or desire to start your own business, plan carefully, but don't dismiss this too easily either.
Start Today
How can we possibly complete all the things we've ever wanted to in our lives in one year? Well that's the easy part, you don't... Pick a few that you would like to focus on every year. Plan it through and your list has more potential to come alive than having a daunting list of 30 things. When the year is over, create another. At the end of it all, we can truly say we've lived. We have the potential to be pleasantly surprised at the things we didn't wait 20 years to accomplish. Reward yourself by adding more to the list.
You can be as spontaneous as you like or adapt your list to allow for careful preparation and planning. Follow through to bring things to fruition, allow room for new goals to evolve and change for the next year. Before we kick the bucket, a one-year kick in the butt can do us all some good, a lust for life that we can taste everyday, and a bucket we can refill over and over again.
