The best way to fight a cold winter January in Canada is to dance, of course! Between January 13th and 29th, Montreal, Quebec, preps the quay of their famous port for three incredible weekends of outdoor partying known as Igloofest.

Located right by the water, Igloofest situates itself along one of North America's largest river ports and the history that brought some its first European settlements. On the way to the party, you will pass preserved 19th century architecture and cobble stoned roads, set against the backdrop of skyscrapers behind it. Impossible to get lost, simply follow the thump of the base that can be heard from blocks away and the lights glowing in front of the darkness of the river at nighttime.
It's one of the places where a mixed crowd come out to play. The young, old, gay and straight, hidden behind rainbows of scarfs and ski jackets, it just doesn't matter. Montreal is known for it's openness and the unlikely context for a party in the cold only sets the scene for impromptu fun. The juxtaposition of partying in the freezing outdoors and the laissez-faire attitudes of Montrealers really make Igloofest extra special. Some come for the music, but many come to taste the many ways Montrealers find excuses to celebrate the cold instead of complaining about it.
The Winter Bar
Before you head off to Igloofest, you can even start your evening at the Winter Bar next door. Another outdoor club where you can spend the night inside and outside the tent bar while still wearing your ice skates. The only thing you'll find warm is the Smirnoff and the smiles. One wonders if alcohol and skating make a dangerous mix, but it somehow works. It brings a taste of the winter resorts to city and nostalgic fun that comes along with any day of skating.
If you are looking for things to do on your weekend getaway, come and play every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening between January 13th and 29th.
