It’s that time of year again, get your Speedos and boas ready for Sidney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras kicking off February 19th until March 6th, 2011. Two whole weeks of partying and festivities, find yourself amongst one of the world’s most gay friendly cities.
With over 80 events, there is something for everyone when the world comes together to celebrate diversity at this world renowned festival. The summer weather brings out the friendly and beautiful Sidney crowd and the heat keeps clothing to a minimum when the surf is a hop and skip away. Beach parties, pool parties with DJs in the
locker rooms and many more reasons to spend all day in your swim trunks.
For those looking for something a little more quiet you can keep your clothes on at the Sidney Opera House where a couple of this year’s guests are Armistead Maupin, best-selling author of Tales Of The City. He’ll be there on March 3rd to read from his new book Mary Ann in Autumn, a recount of San Francisco’s gay community in the 70s and 80s. Lily Tomlin will also be there to make the crowd’s laugh on March 4th at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.
Art galleries, film festivals, day cruises and much more are there to fill up your agenda before soirées of debaucherous fun. Mardi Gras closes with its famous parade on March 5th, one of the largest in the world with over 100 floats of insane amounts of dancing and color. Last, but not least, a massive party to follow which draws over 18 0000 people and international DJs.
